I have been thinking of doing a series on my Favorite picks of Brands and recommendations. But I have always been a procrastinator and delaying it for too long. After seeing The Sunday Currently Series started by Grace at Sandierpastures.com, I am totally inspired to start one. But yeah! I am being a little less optimistic here. Let me face the truth. I have very limited time to run the blog and I may not be able to put up a weekly series. So here I am trying to put up a post, end of every month loaded with all my favorites and some bits from my personal life too.
This way all of you get to know me better and I would welcome all of you to tell me about your favorites too.
So to get started, let me tell you, January is always a special month for me. It’s not only the beginning of a New Year, but also my birthday! (Well, not so happy about the aging part though). I am never a resolutions type of person and so you know, I did not even think of starting the year with a Resolution to stick to. Being a working mom, I have been trying to balance out my time at work and family, the second being my most important priority. And in between, blogging has been taking a back seat. So most of my daily emotions and expression of thoughts are now through my Instagram. I have recently began loving to tell my stories to the world through photos on my Instagram. And on another note, this January also began with myself being one of the 5 Finalists for Photoblogging Category and Travel Writing Category on Orangeflower Awards by the Women’s Web Team. It was one of the proud moments for me in my blogging career.
So here comes a few of my favorite happenings and the products I loved in the last month.
Where we loved going?
Action Zone at The Capital Mall, Mussafah
If you have been following me on my Instagram, you would have seen me at the Action Zone almost every day last week in my Instagram Stories. I was invited to the Grand opening event of the Action Zone and ever since, we are in love with it. The most important part for me being the convenience. It is just 5 minutes drive from our home and the indoor soft play area is one of the favorites of my boy now. Other than the Gaming zones, they also have a Nursery area for the younger kids equipped with Sand play areas, pretend play areas etc. So it has now almost become an every day routine for myself and my boy to head to Action Zone in the evenings for their Soft Play Area.
Where we loved Eating?
Though eating out is a favorite thing for our family, we did not try out many new places lately. Calicut Notebook Restaurant at Madinat Zayed shopping Centre in Abu Dhabi, is a place we have been to a few times before too. But last month, I went out with a few of my colleagues at work. If you have already been going there or if its your first time, here are 3 dishes I would totally recommend to you. Start with their Signature Pazhassi Salad. Being a Keralite myself, I know this is not an authentic Keralite dish. But they have tried to bring out a concept of eating pan in India in a little different manner. Another dish you should definitely try is their Pandanas Chicken. Chicken roasted after wrapping in Pandan leaves. And you should end your course with this Dessert – Banana Crepe.
I can't believe I am super late to try this Signature welcome dish from #CalicutNotebook called Pazhassi Salad. Served in Silverware. You need to put these peanuts, roasted coconuts, onions, red chili and ginger in that leaf (not sure of the name) and pour the sweet honey over it and wrap it and have it all in a bite..The sweetness of the honey and the spicy chilli mixes so well with the crispy peanuts!! I loved this innovation. Is there a real traditional salad like this in Calicut??? Any one from Calicut here who could let me know?? . . . . #godsowncountry #instaabudhabi #igersdubai #igersabudhabi #kerala #simplyabudhabi #amazingabudhabi #mydubai #dubaiblogger #abudhabiblogger #uaemombloggers #uaebloggers #roamersworld #exploremore #openmyworld #indiapictures #foodtalkindia #gloobyfood #forkfeed #foodwinewomen #onmytable #heresmyfood
I also found a cute little outlet serving Mexican Cuisine at an affordable range right in the heart of Abu Dhabi. The Outlet itself has a Rustic themed interior that reminds of a traditional street cafe – Food Rustic UAE. Though parking could be a bit of a problem during peak hours, add this place to your bucket list for a unique experience. If you eat beef, do try their Hamburguesa Mexicana. We also loved their Burrito in a Bowl.
What we loved Reading?
When it comes to buying toys for my boy, I always love to invest more in Puzzles, books and educational toys. This month I found this lovely book – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. By seeing the ratings online, I can imagine most of you must be having this book already. I loved this book because it is easy to hold for the little hands, and covers the names of a few fruits, days of the week and a little message of a Caterpillar blooming to a beautiful butterfly. If you buying it, make sure you go for the Board book version. The book is available on Mumzworld.com, Souq.com and Amazon.com. If you planning to visit India soon, best way to shop these items would be through Flipkart. I always order my favorites at a much lesser price on Flipkart and get them delivered to my home in Kerala, whenever I have someone coming to visit us from home. And for those of you shopping here, I have a 10% Discount Code (except for diapers, formula, food products and sale items) for Mumzworld.com especially for our readers – monsoonbreeze10
What Events we loved?
We haven’t been actively participating in many formal events as a family, except for a few birthdays and family events. However, we loved the time we got to spend at the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival at Al Watba. And being a foodie, other than the chance to experience the culture and trade of various countries through their pavilions, what I enjoyed the most is trying out Logaimat. Its an Arabic traditional dessert. If you get a chance, do not forget to try them.
And of course, we spent our New Year’s eve, watching the fireworks at Al Maryah Island.
Do let me know, what you loved the most about the First month of this year? Wishing you a Fabulous February!
Signing off with love!
